- Where may I send a donation that will support our state monolith in the Smithsonian Soils Exhibit?
The Agronomic Science Foundation (ASF), the philanthropic arm of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), is collecting Smithsonian Soils Exhibit donations. ASF will periodically forward all funds collected, including interest earned, to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. Neither ASF nor SSSA take any fees or overhead from donations. Checks, payable to ASF-Smithsonian, can be mailed to ASF at 677 South Segoe Rd, Madison, WI 53711.
- Can I give online or another way?
Gifts can also be directed to the fund:
- 1- online with a credit card at a-s-f.org by clicking “Donate Online” and indicating Smithsonian in the comments section
- 2- when an SSSA membership is renewed by making a note “Smithsonian” in the margin anywhere on the form
- 3- through the Federal Government’s Combined Federal Campaign (charity # 2709)
- 4- with a gift of appreciated stock or mutual fund (thereby avoiding capital gains tax). For stock transfer information, contact ASF (see below).
- Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, ASF is a 501(c)(3) educational, charitable foundation, so gifts are deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
- Will my state soils association effort get credit?
All donations will be “credited” to the state monolith of the donor. ASF will periodically notify state contacts of all local donations.
- Will our names(s) appear on our state monolith?
If your state reaches the $10,000 total goal, donors of $1,000 or more will be listed on the permanent plaque. See our brochure or pledge form for recognition details.
- Who can I contact for more information?
