A Society for Soil Scientists, by Soil Scientists

The Soil Science Society of Georgia (SSSGA), formed in 1989, is a nonprofit (501c3) association of academic, research, public service, and consulting professionals dedicated to the study, evaluation, advancement, and promotion of soil science. The SSSGA serves the public and its membership through the accumulation, dissemination, and application of knowledge about soils as an important natural resource in our state. The SSSGA is a membership-based and volunteer-run organization open to the public that sponsors an annual scholarship for a student pursuing the study of Soil Science at the University of Georgia.

The Soil Science Society of Georgia serves as a resource for its consulting members in professional practice that includes but is not limited to providing field evaluation for soil classification, mapping, interpretation, erosion and sediment control, wetland identification, onsite wastewater disposal, and land application of wastes. The society holds an annual meeting for its members and others interested in Soil Science in Georgia where continuing education is provided as well as a forum for sharing and promoting professional opportunities.
